Welcome to the semantic IPTV project website at DAI-Labor, TU-Berlin. As a part of the competence center "Network and Mobility" we are conducting research on Next Generation Network (NGN) Standards focusing on multimedia communications and related protocols.
Since IPTV is a potential service that is suitable for utilizing many features of next generation telecommunication infrastructures, we have selected this complex service for our studies and developed a reference implementation based on NGN standards for testing, demonstration, and prototyping purposes.
As a result of our work, a quadruple play application integrating Internet data, Telephony and TV services in fixed and mobile scenarios was developed. The application provides entertainment and communication features like VoIP, Instant Messaging, Presence, IPTV, Voting, personalized advertising, and TV.
Semantic approaches are used to provide personalized recommendation and services adapted to the user based on user-preferences, observed user behaviour, content describing metadata, and context information. From user perspective this increases the quality of the IPTV service experience, while a provider benefits from systematic targeting ability (e.g. for advertisement, content, and added services).
